Dani

Brief History of DANI

Founding:
The independent newsmagazine Dani started publishing monthly on September 1992 in war-torn Sarajevo. The founders of the magazine were a group of Sarajevo journalists and writers, who wen in war conditions, wanted to stay devoted to professional standards and ethics and fight against attempts to draw media into propaganda, language of hatred, and national intolerance.

Circulation: Because of its editorial policy, the magazine soon became the most influential publication in Bosnia. After the war, Dani expanded its distribution and went from monthly to by weekly with circulation of 30.000 copies per issue as the most widely read publication - including newspapers - in entire Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dani became weekly on May 1999 with circulation of 20.000 to 25.000 copies per issue. Dani are the first media in B&H with its own www site on the Internet, with approximately 100.000 visitors per issue

Impact: A truly investigative magazine, Dani's editorial policy maintains its "No mercy" criticism of nationalist tendencies in political and cultural life. Dani also exposes connections between criminals, mobsters and the ruling political structures. Because of this, Dani has often been the victim of various forms of suppression and attempts to destroy publication.

Influence and Awards: Despite threats against it, Dani maintains its influence - all serious politicians, managers, intellectuals, artists and journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina read the magazine. Dani is the most quoted magazine from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the international media. For their current work and attempt to reconstruct and help build a democratic society, Dani have been presented with a number of international and domestic awards. These include the last "Olof Palme" award and "Democracy and Civil Society" award from the United State and EU.
